Job Description
Hackney After School Club is seeking an enthusiastic and caring After School Educator and Recess Coach to support children’s learning and development in a safe, fun, and engaging environment in London
The role involves planning and leading after school activities, supervising recess, encouraging positive play, and promoting social and emotional growth among children
You will play an important role in creating a supportive atmosphere that balances structured learning with creative and active play opportunities
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and lead age appropriate after school activities including arts, sports, and educational games
- Supervise recess and ensure a safe and inclusive play environment
- Encourage teamwork, respect, and positive behavior among children
- Provide homework assistance and academic support when needed
- Maintain a safe environment by following safeguarding and child protection guidelines
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and school staff regarding student progress and concerns
- Assist in setting up and tidying activity areas before and after sessions
- Participate in staff training and contribute to the improvement of club programs
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Qualification in childcare, education, or youth work preferred (NVQ, CACHE, or equivalent)
- First Aid and safeguarding certification is an advantage
Skills & Competencies
- Strong ability to engage and motivate children in both structured and free play activities
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with children and adults
- Patience, empathy, and a caring approach to working with young learners
- Creativity in planning activities that are educational and fun
- Ability to manage groups of children and maintain a positive environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting child welfare
Requirements
- Experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or recreational setting
- Knowledge of child development and positive behavior management strategies
- Ability to work flexible hours during after school periods
- Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom
- Passion for supporting children’s growth, learning, and wellbeing
